Get Started in Inventor's Shape Generator

by Nigel Ambayec on Mar 15, 2017

Inventor's Shape Generator is a new approach to design lightweight, structurally efficient parts in Autodesk Inventor. It provides an intelligent strategy for maximizing part “stiffness” based on the constraints you specify.

Worried about component weight? Shape Generator removes unnecessary pieces of geometry and optimizes your model to your specifications. The technology is integrated into Autodesk Inventor, making it simple to incorporate into your existing design process. Shape Generator produces a 3D mesh that can be used to guide your design refinement, meaning it's best used early when designing. Let’s look at how to include Shape Generator in your design process today.

Unlocking Autodesk Vault Lifecycles

by Jorge Fernandez on Feb 20, 2017

As an engineer or designer, you're likely faced with the challenge of sharing data with various departments in an organized manner. The dilemma comes when others have access to too much information at the wrong time.

In this recap of an Autodesk Virtual Academy webcast, Nigel and I reveal how to develop workflows to get from a Work in Progress to a Release state with Vault Professional Lifecycles. You'll also learn how to add and edit lifecycle states, set automatic revisions, and configure categories to set default lifecycles. Let's take a look.

AutoCAD Help: How to Customize AutoCAD ViewCube

by Daniel Hwang on Feb 14, 2017

Have you ever found yourself working in AutoCAD only to be bothered by the ViewCube in your drawing space? Or Maybe you'd just like to momentarily remove it to help edit a current design.

It seems most people fall under one of two categories:

  1. Those who want nothing more than to get rid of the ViewCube
  2. Those who have never noticed it before until it got in the way of their drawing, and now want nothing more than to get rid of the ViewCube

Joking aside, the ViewCube is available for all AutoCAD users by default and is helpful for keeping your drawings “upright.” However, it's more useful for those that work in a 3D drawing environment, and not so much for 2D drafters. If that’s you, I’m going to show you how to get rid of that ViewCube – or if you’re feeling up to it, how you can make it larger.

Fusion 360: Manufacturing Made Easy

by Alex Alvarez on Feb 7, 2017

Manufacturing has always been interesting to me. The fact that you can design a part within CAD software and then physically watch it get built is something that will forever intrigue me and motivate me to design. Growing up, I loved taking things apart, seeing what was inside, and learning how it functioned. Granted, I wasn’t always able to put things back together. But I was learning. And that was exciting to me.
