AutoCAD Dynamic Blocks

by Jorge Fernandez on Jun 19, 2017

I'm sure everyone wants to eliminate repetitive design in our workflows. Sometimes this process is difficult, sometimes even needing custom coding of software. Other times you don't necessarily need to go as far as coding and programming, and you just need to fully leverage the power the software comes with "out of the box". One such tool is Dynamic blocks. Dynamic blocks in AutoCAD contain rules that allow a user to configure parameters to change the appearance of the block reference when it is inserted into drawings. Such function allows users to define custom properties and manage drawing content to further enhance and speed up workflow.

In this session of Autodesk Virtual Academy, we cover Dynamic Blocks, how to create them, and associate specific parameters to define sizing, arrays, and visibility states.

Recap: iLogic Rules & Workflows Workshop

by Jorge Fernandez on Apr 11, 2017

A long time ago, in a college not so far away (Cal Poly Pomona to be exact), I found an urge to want to split myself in two. The fun side of Jorge would be able to go out with friends and the responsible side could focus on studying, homework, classes, and work.

Lately, I find myself trying to figure out a way to duplicate myself again. However, it’s so I can take on more work. Not so long ago, the industry found itself trying to figure out how to do more with less. Now, we want to do more with what we have. I’m here to tell you, through Inventor’s iLogic tool, we can!

Unlocking Autodesk Vault Lifecycles

by Jorge Fernandez on Feb 20, 2017

As an engineer or designer, you're likely faced with the challenge of sharing data with various departments in an organized manner. The dilemma comes when others have access to too much information at the wrong time.

In this recap of an Autodesk Virtual Academy webcast, Nigel and I reveal how to develop workflows to get from a Work in Progress to a Release state with Vault Professional Lifecycles. You'll also learn how to add and edit lifecycle states, set automatic revisions, and configure categories to set default lifecycles. Let's take a look.

Fusion Lifecycle Adds Cloud-Based Product Data Management

by Jorge Fernandez on Sep 21, 2016

Yesterday, I was fortunate enough to attend a session in our office from Brian Roepke, Sr. Director Product Development from Autodesk. He also happens to be the innovator and creator of Autodesk Vault. Some of the perks of my job are being on the cutting edge and knowing what’s next with engineering design and collaboration tools.

It used to be that every year there was something new. Now, it seems like it’s every day or - shoot - every HOUR there is something new for us to take advantage of.

Autodesk University 2015 and My Adventures Going Green

by Jorge Fernandez on Dec 4, 2015

When I first moved to the bay area, I had no idea what was in store for me. Would I end up working where I was aiming at the time, at the NUMMI plant (now the TESLA plant)? Would I be sucked into the real estate market? Tried that, but it’s a separate story. Well I chose to eventually come back to KETIV opening the San Jose office. I was extremely excited to be part of an expansion with KETIV and help lead us in Northern CA, which ended up expanding further north.

That was around 2009, probably one of the most challenging moments to be in any industry no matter where you were. HOWEVER, one of the most exciting things in my career that could ever happen was during this time. And that was the Autodesk Clean Tech Program. It was an Autodesk program that allowed us to work with emerging companies in the “Cleantech” sector where Autodesk would grant the software they needed for design and we would work with them to get them up and running. Needless to say, there were a lot of companies that took Autodesk up on the offer and as a result I was working with them as well. The companies and people I got to meet through the program and the ideas I heard about have been extremely exciting to be a part of.

Get Started With Autodesk Fusion 360

by Jorge Fernandez on Sep 3, 2015

Here I am at crunch time needing to get better at something. As usual I wait until the last minute; luckily this is one of those times where I’m saved by another easy to use software. This time it’s in the form of an online 3D modeler, I’m talking about Fusion 360.
